Videography | Photoshop
Cinemagraph
This was a university project I took part in. We were tasked to create a ‘Cinemagraph‘ showcasing a specific chosen brand, with the use of props, photograph/videography, and the Adobe suite. My chosen brand was Nescafe.
I wanted the composition to revolve around a tagline, something that was unreal and/or spectacular. So I came up with the line: “It pours itself”.
This was something I wanted to incorporate into the final composition, and it was a good first step forward.

The Process
Prototyping
After creating a quick mood board on Pinterest to see what would pique my interest, I started to see a large trend toward cinematics on coffee. I started to gravitate towards cinematics around this topic.
I then proceeded to draw up some composition thumbnails and ideas on paper. And then selecting three that I felt were feasible and within my abilities as a creator.
Selected concepts fpr prototyping.
Gathering Assets
&
creating the motion
Use of a bluescreen (Yes…that’s
a tarp)
editing the motion within adobe Photoshop, and exporting the composition as a .GIF
I also created a Second Prototype as seen above.
Conclusion
As you can see, none of these are perfect, especially with the equipment I had on hand at the time (The tarp and the broom set up). However, I was happy with the overall composition, as I kept in mind where the copy could be placed.
The task of rotoscoping the ‘liquid’ was also identified as a major challenge. But the feedback was positive from my lecturers and classmates, and was suggested that I needed to create something that was more ‘solid‘.
The Process
Part 2
With what I learned above with the two prototypes I made, I set out to create the third and final cinematic. This time however I aimed to emphasize perfection with my photography/videography shots and I made sure to prioritise cleanliness when editing the scenes in Adobe Photoshop for each frame.
